Ducati Monster 900s

The main difference is that the 1993 Monster 900 is the raw, original “base” model, while the 1997 Monster 900S (Special) is a higher-spec “performance” variant featuring adjustable suspension and lightweight carbon fibre parts.

Key Differences
Suspension: The ’93 model came with beefy but non-adjustable Showa upside-down forks and a basic Boge rear shock. The ’97 “S” version upgraded to fully adjustable Showa forks and a higher-quality rear shock for better tuning.
Weight & Materials: The 900S was designed to be lighter and sportier, incorporating carbon fibre for the side panels, mudguards, and front fender.
Brakes: The 900S typically features upgraded braking components, such as floating Brembo front discs with cast-iron tracks for improved stopping power compared to the standard discs on the original.
Styling: The ’97 S version included a small fly screen (headlight fairing) and a rear seat cowl as standard to give it a more aggressive look.

Engine Evolutions
While both share the 904cc air-cooled L-twin, there are internal differences due to the years:
Early Models (1993–1995): Often preferred by tuners because they used “higher flow” V2 heads.
Mid-Range Models (1996–1998): Switched to more restrictive “W2” heads with smaller valves to meet tighter emissions standards, which can make them feel slightly less punchy than the original ’93.
